Roleplay: The Final Frontier

Well, folks, this is it. Roleplaying is perhaps the favorite pastime among my friends and I. Whether it is BESM (Which this section had originally been covering for quite some time), Dungeons and Dragons, or some other obscure role-playing game that one of us has uncovered, we love to play these games. And so, being one of our key interests, I have set up this section, which will discuss the different role-playing projects that we are working on. The majority will be BESM, although there will be more than that placed on this page as time goes on.

Now, this section was once made so that all of the projects would be explained in extended detail on a single page. However, after putting only 2 BESM projects up, I realized that the page would become insanely long if I continued this way. So now all that you see below is a series of links leading to the different projects. Neat and Dandy, eh? Well, here you go. Feast your eyes and enjoy.

I personally felt that this part of the site hadn't seen action in a while, so I took the liberty of revamping the look, similar to the index page. Now it generally looks nicer AND there are a few more sections of content! Enjoy it- Banzai OK!

Roleplaying Game List

Project Zero: BESM

This, my friends, is the first BESM campaign that Skullrama, Starfe, Culix and I have played. Started well over 2 years ago, it stands as being our most epic adventure. Starfe, our resident genius geek, first planned this game out to be a futuristic mecha-type campaign. We fought a mecha once. Didn't even pilot one. But the game turned out to be so much more than he imagined. The link above is freaking history, man. Check it out.

Ippo BESM: Project Uppercut!

After we all realized how successful the first BESM campaign, project Zero, was turning out, Skullrama, Starfe and I began collaborating to create another type of campaign, based off of the anime Hajime no Ippo. Although we haven't played this game NEARLY as much as we should, this game is the first instant in which we worked together to craft a VERY successful custom BESM system for a modified game.

Project 1: The Slayers! BESM

I put this game up or month or two after the main site had been established, so it's the first game that went on here. It was my first attempt at making a role-playing campaign, although by no means was it a successful venture. It isn't an oft-played game, but I did have a LOT of fun crafting the rules for magic in BESM-style, and making the world's history, which has some roots in the typical Slayers mythos, but does not actually connect completely with the original storyline.

Project 2: Omentium Warriors BESM

The second game ever to go up on this site, I made it as a sort of unasked favor for my main man, Culix, who'd been busy crafting the rules to this game that he was working on. Omentium Warriors is a neat game, although even less oft-played than Slayers!, with an astounding track record of 2 games per year. Only one year has passed since this game was started.

Project 3: Dark General BESM

Shortly after Slayers! and Omentium Warriors were put on the site, Skullrama started to get some cool, but crazy ideas in that head of his. Seems he liked the idea of a BESM campaign in which the main characters were villains of darkness, typical of the kind you'd find in Sailor Moon. The idea stuck, and so the campaign was forged. A bit more popular than some of our ideas, but still lacking a respectable amount of playtime... being evil is quite fun, though.

Project 4: Angelic Layer BESM

Also around that time, in June 2003, Skullrama created an Angelic Layer mod of BESM, since he'd been watching way too much of the stuff at the time. Based more on the tri-stat formula than on the actual BESM game, we enjoyed a good game or two of this before never hearing from it again. I personally liked playing this- my character was NUTS. Starfe's character was good, too.

Project 5: Chaos BESM

Late in the summer of 2003, Skullrama was cooped up in the middle of NOWHERE with his extended family. His mind sort of snapped, and he beckoned for Culix to create a character for some random BESM campaign. I, lacking BESM at the time, volunteered to play as well. We eventually got some characters ready for what looked like a promising, energetic campaign that could possibly even become serious and dramatic. We had no idea how wrong we were. This campaign is a work of pure genius, albeit a genius FAR removed from the brilliance that crafted Project Zero.

Project 6: Phantasy Star Tri-Stat

This home-brewed game was another of Skullrama's creations, following the absorption of dangerous levels of PS at the time. An on-going campaign, it has takes place in the where and when of Phantasy Star II, and boasts the same spirit and energy that makes the PS games a unique and memorable experience.

Project 7: One Shot

This BESM game is one that I crafted a while ago. It was supposed to be only a few sessions long, and thus far we haven't really gotten much into it, because we've only played once. It's a promising game, though, and Culix seems to want it to be a full campaign. It seems however, with the passing of summertime, that this game has fallen into sad obscurity.

Project 8: The Waiting Game

Once, when Culix and I were going to play the One-Shot Campaign, we were waiting for Skullrama to show up. We became impatient, and I eventually got the BRILLIANT idea to make another campaign- one which Culix and I could play whenever we were waiting for something. And thus began the Waiting Game, one of my favorite mini campaigns. It, like so many others, does not boast an impressive number of games, but I enjoyed DMing it.

Project 9: Vampire!

Early into the new school year, 2003. Skullrama creates a vampire-type character, and wants to play a game as him. So I began DMing a somewhat darker campaign than what I am used to, although the effect is pretty neat.  Not much to say on this one, however.

Project 10: Culix's Game - Final Fantasy RPG

A while ago, Culix had been reviewing the rules for the Returners' Final Fantasy-style role playing system. He thought that the idea was pretty neat, and eventually brought it upon himself to start a Final Fantasy campaign. Skullrama and I created characters for it, and started to play. It was a fun game, although it has, as of yet, not had enough games to really make a final call on how the game is or how it should turn out, quality-wise. Culix's DMing skills are good as ever, enriching the FF experience. Just... needs to play more...

The GM's Code

Evil Warlord Guy, who's had a lot of experience in roleplaying games, created the GM's Code a while back. It's great resource material for anyone who wants to try their hand at GMing a game, covering all of the steps to being a GM. Even if it's just a rip-off of the Jedi's Code, you gotta check it out!
